I had to apply this exercise to myself and ask myself some really hard questions as to why I constantly distract myself from important tasks that are pertinent to the delivery of my entrepreneurial goals. It is not just important to deal with the root causes of our distraction, but quite fundamental to your progress as an entrepreneur.

So how do you go about identifying the root cause of you being distraction or the root cause of you using an array of distraction tools as an excuse not to focus on key tasks?

These 5 tips will allow you to delve a bit deeper as to why;

1. How to deal with Distractions.  Do you become anxious at the thought of executing a task?

When you become anxious at the mere thought of executing a task. Potentially you are on a good path if you can overcome that anxiety. Because anxiety is just a signal from your brain to convince you to YES, remain in your comfort zone. Well, if you refuse to remain in your comfort zone you will reap the rewards. An important task very well executed, increased confidence on your part and a natural yearning to move on to the next task.

So, how does that sound. So important to develop the habit of putting anxieties aside and surging ahead irrespective. Play the Mind Game with your Mind.™️

2. As soon as you have resolved in your mind to knuckle down to execute a task, does your mind drift?

You are most likely in avoidance mode. Almost afraid that if you carry out the task it will not work. Coming up with excuses as you go along. But once you allow this to happen your mind plays on it and BAM!!!. You are all over the place because, once again, your brain’s attempting to lure you away from that task at hand. An attempt to make you revert to a  mundane tasks or absolutely nothing, keeping you in your comfort zone.

But it could also be that you do not have clear clarity of the task that you intended to knuckle down to. The moment you start you become overwhelmed with a barrage of thoughts which in turn causes your mind to drift. Of which you console yourself by well, just engaging in something not as challenging.

So does this sound familiar?

3. Are you the type of person who ponders on all the impossibilities?

If you keep on convincing yourself that tasks, goals or stuff you have to accomplish are all impossible or difficult to achieve. Before you have even started. This is likely to pose problems to say the least. I used to conjour impossibilities of all sorts in my head, well, what if it doesn’t work or what if I get cheated, misconstrued or misunderstood? Excuses and more excuses to convince myself that my comfort zone is the best place to be!! So, does this resonate with you at all? Could it be that the reason why you do this is due to a certain fear of failing at the task at hand? So, why not just convince yourself that it is actually possible to execute the task successfully because you actually can? A VERY POSITIVE MOVE.

4. Have you ever convinced yourself, That it is OK to put it off another week, as you have so much time?

When I set my my first company, it was exciting to have this new entity as a potential money making, profit generating machine. However, when it came to executing activities, tasks and goals to make this entity as viable as it can possibly be, I started to put things off. Convincing myself that it can wait and there is loads of time. This did cost me dearly as I had to fold up the company. It was just there, an entity that was doing nothing and going nowhere.

People often put important tasks off  because they’re afraid of failing at the task. This nature of fear actually promotes putting things off. When the task is challenging and takes away or threatens our ability to carry on with our usual mundane tasks. When you feel at the onset of a task that you might fail at it, What do you do? YOU PUT IT OFF!!!

 

5. So do you think constantly of what other people are doing and how good they are at it?

I used to think just like this and not just that, for every innovation released my response was, “How come I didn’t think of that?”

It’s pretty self explanatory, lack of focus on my own unique capabilities. This exposes ingrained lack of self confidence, self belief, self esteem in oneself. It  prevents you from stepping into your own unique thing. Of which you remain in your comfort zone and constantly dove tail on someone else’s capabilities.

If you are constantly bothered about what other people are doing, it is unlikely that you as an entrepreneur will progress your own unique  entrepreneurial journey with much success. You have your own unique stuff to deliver.All you need to do is focus and start smashing those goals.
