How To Identify The Actual Root Cause of my Distractions and Deal with Distractions. 5 Helpful Tips

  1. Solution to anxiety and feeling anxious at the onset of an activity, task or project

Anxiety is basically a debilitating state of mind. Anxiety reduces our ability to focus, carry on and complete an activity, task or project successfully as we should. The first thing you must consider is to calm yourself down.  Both your physical being and more so your mind. You can achieve this by making conscious and purposeful effort to alleviate the anxiety you are feeling. You must be intentional  in dealing with anxiety by taking a break, going for a walk to clear your head. Breathing exercises and meditation serve very well in calming anxiety.

For me laying on the floor (with a soft surface) on my back in a dimly lit room for about 15 mins releases my anxiety and enables me to refocus. You should try it and let me know how you get on.

Finally, brainstorming and putting a plan in place with regards to the task you have at hand is a very good starting point. This will not only reduce your anxiety but will give you some clarity as to how to tackle the task.

2. Solution to your mind drifting and Mindfulness

Be mindful of your thoughts and basically keep your thoughts under control whilst working on your tasks. Do not allow your mind to wander for too long as this will be counter productive to the tasks you are attempting to deliver. Consciously bring yourself back from those thoughts, get up, have a look out of the window, get a drink of water and then go back to tackle the task.

It is also very important to focus your efforts on one task at a time. Many entrepreneurs do claim that performing more tasks at once helps to get more done and saves time.  When you are at a point of which you have mastered your mind wandering and can identify when you tend to drift off, then you can consider some limited multi tasking; say two tasks at a time.

3. Solution to I can’t do this/It’s impossible to execute this task

The best solution for I can’t do this,  is to make a plan and do it. If you are feeling overwhelmed by a task at hand and have been putting it off for a while, try to conduct a bit of research on how best to go about it. Take out 20 mins to research and you will be surprised that what you find will be an enabler for you to make progress with the task.

If you find it challenging to conduct the research, ask a family member or a friend to assist you with it. There is a likelihood that  your request will be met with enthusiasm. The enthusiasm  will then rub off on you; another enabler to conquer the impossible. When they revert back to you with the research, you have a mini plan right there, all you need to do is to refine it. WELL DONE.

The impossible beliefs are all in your head so you must address this by saying to yourself, “I can do this”. The solution is embedded somewhere on the inside of you, you need to uncover it by saying, Actually, I can do this!!!

4. Solution to constantly moving the goal post (even when it is cast in stone)

Time to get disciplined and hold yourself accountable. Plan what you need to do on a daily basis. Map out your key deliverables with dates attached. Force yourself to do a bit more on a daily basis, I call it going the extra mile. This will save you surmountable amounts of time as you get the task done. Take it in piecemeal chunks,  each day and a couple more chunks the next day and the next day.

This will  result in you not having to shift the goalpost ever again. Plan and manage your time accordingly and it will serve you well in performing your tasks. You will not need to shift the goal post ever again.
